Frequently asked questions
Which is better for FY 2025-26: Old or New tax regime?
It depends on your deductions. With the Union Budget 2025 changes, the new regime now exempts income up to ₹12 lakh (after the ₹75,000 standard deduction). For most salaried Indians without large 80C/HRA/home-loan deductions, the new regime saves more tax.
What are the new regime tax slabs for FY 2025-26?
Per Union Budget 2025: 0% up to ₹4L, 5% on ₹4–8L, 10% on ₹8–12L, 15% on ₹12–16L, 20% on ₹16–20L, 25% on ₹20–24L, 30% above ₹24L. A ₹75,000 standard deduction applies. Section 87A rebate makes income up to ₹12L tax-free.
Is the new regime default for FY 2025-26?
Yes, the new tax regime is the default. You can opt for the old regime by declaring it to your employer or while filing ITR.
Is this calculator accurate for ITR filing?
It's accurate for salary income, standard deductions and common 80C/80D/HRA inputs. It does not cover capital gains, business income, multiple house properties or complex foreign tax credits — for those, consult a CA.
Is health and education cess included?
Yes — 4% Health & Education Cess is applied on the tax + surcharge in both regimes.
Is this calculator free to use?
Yes — 100% free, no signup. You can also download a PDF tax summary instantly.
