How long does it take to build and launch a Shopify store in India?

Short answer

A standard Indian Shopify store on a customised premium theme launches in four to six weeks. A fully custom theme build takes eight to twelve weeks. The delay is almost never development — it is product photography, copy and catalogue data, which clients underestimate by two to three weeks on nearly every project.

Week one covers discovery: catalogue structure, collection logic, shipping zones, COD policy, GST configuration and the payment gateway decision. Getting collection structure right here saves a URL migration later.

Weeks two and three are design and build: theme customisation, product template, cart and checkout flow, and the mobile experience — which is where 80%+ of Indian D2C traffic lands, so it is designed first, not adapted down.

Week four is integrations and data: Razorpay or Cashfree, Shiprocket or Delhivery, WhatsApp order notifications, abandoned-cart flows, GST-compliant invoicing and the analytics and pixel stack. Product data import happens here and is the most common cause of slippage.

Weeks five and six are QA and launch: test orders across COD and prepaid, RTO flow, mobile testing across low-end Android devices, speed optimisation, schema markup, and the DNS cutover. Plan the launch for a Tuesday, never a Friday.

What actually causes delay: product photography not ready (add two to three weeks if it has not been shot), incomplete catalogue data such as missing weights, dimensions or HSN codes, and payment gateway KYC, which takes three to seven working days and cannot be rushed. Start all three in week one, in parallel with design.
